HistoryEdit

Neftegorsk (Russian: Нефтего́рск) was called Vostok (Восто́к) before it was remained in 1970, was an oil-producing urban-type settlement (aka- a town) in Sakhalin Island, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. It had been specalising in oil work since some time in the late 1960s.

The eventEdit

The town was devastated on May 28, 1995 by an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale which killed over 2,000 people out of the total population of about 3,500. The only major structure reported to have to have survived was a plinthed statue of Lenin!

AftermathEdit

The settlement was not rebuilt after the earthquake and a memorial was constructed in the area.
